So as some of you probably know since I did stream a little again recently, I swapped my desktop back to Linux recently, and its now been a couple weeks so I figured I’d write an update post as to hows it going, and what I still would like to do with it.
First, the setup. I decided to eschew the Hyprland setup this time, and just stick with KDE, its heavier than Hyprland, which would normally be a downside for me, but honestly its just so much more easy to use right off the rip and adds a bunch of things I’d have to had setup on my own (like a Taskbar, Notifications etc) so I’m happy with my choice.
I do still have Hyprland installed (the Environment I was using when we maxed out 128gb of memory in ARK) and I may set it up eventually alongside the KDE, but I’m not feeling any pressure to do so.
I also chose to go back to an Arch based distro again, this time with CachyOS. I will say I’ve had a hell of a time with it actually getting installed, and part of me misses the stability of Debian; but I’m sticking with it for now and I dropped my User folder to a separate partition so I can always just move it if I need to.
I have Battle.net installed, which went super easy because of a new launcher I found called Faugus Launcher, and got Steam up and running easy too. I’ve been trying to use Flatpaks as much as possible this time, which has been kinda nice, and haven’t really encountered issues with it. I did get OBS Installed, and it does work; though I need to get the camera and such still to work with it. I also need an audio interface for my XLR Microphone if I want to use my professional mic with it again, until then I’m just on my headset microphone, which isn’t terrible but not ideal if/when I start to regularly stream again.
I would still like to get an Editing software, as I think I want to try YouTube again instead of just Live Streaming. I also want to setup the old Streaming PC as a media PC, I’ve been running like a full on Torrent/Piracy stack on this Computer for the house and now that I have an idea how to use it all, I’d like to get it off my PC and maybe even allow limited access for group watching outside of the house. We’ll see!
I can still recommend that people ditch Windows for Linux, with KDE where its at these days, its a really easy swap!
