California Law regarding Age Verification in OS's

I’m not sure others have seen the news, but California passed a law last year that takes effect in January of 2027 requiring all OS Developers to do Age Verification when installing an Operating System.

Besides the fact this is absurd, and there is absolutely no way it could be enforced; who wants to take bets to see who ends up bending the knee and who doesn’t? Several Linux distributions have already modified their Terms of Use to exclude California residents… which I think is great. I’d love to see biggers Distros, or even some of the real big boys actually take a stand against the law. Would be hilarious if no one in California could legally use Windows in a years time.

OK IMMEDIATE UPDATE LOL.

Apparently Brazil already passed this law, and its effective March 17th, which… nothing is compliant? is anything compliant? I don’t even think Windows or anyone else has implemented this. So what happens? Will be very interesting to see what happens with that.

I heard a little about this, I believe there’s a $2500 fine if you violate this unintentionally. $7500 if intentional.

I expect this to go over well for the entire Linux community.

Brazil is charging like 9,000,000 USD for each violation, but they’re charging the companies, not users … I personally think we’ll never see anyone actually charged. New York is working on their own law that would require smart devices, “anything with an internet connection”; do age check… so good luck fridge manufacturers LOLOLOL

We’re getting some awesome drama out of this. https://agelesslinux.org, their site is awesome.
